Just thought i’d share this video I have watched about groove and wonky beats. I found the forensic breakdown of J Dilla’s rhythms really interesting. He took advantage of the shuffle on his drum machine, shifting things before and after the beat to create funky grooves. Also mixing and matching different shuffles for different drum hits or instruments, with the interplay between them making everything sound more interesting.
